We probably feel like this at the end of every year—knackered, cold, frantically struggling with/ignoring looming deadlines, and manically scanning the internet to throw money at the gaping void of Christmas present preparation (unless you’re one of the savvy folks who’ve used our Eye on Design Gift Guide)—but this past trip around the sun has felt more like a dystopian dumpster fire than any in recent memory; socially, politically, globally, and domestically. All we can say is bring on the new decade, and good riddance 2019.
But before we go, let’s reflect on what we’re taking away in the form of a personal assessment, by which we mean a quiz. We’ve seen design trends come and go (hello there, terminal green and liquid metal); a raft of new booze packaging launches; some enormous reveals and branding blunders; and a whole load more. While there are a lot of words we could use to describe the “design industry” and those who argue about/discuss it online, dull isn’t one of them. Test your knowledge of the design news from the past year, and challenge your colleagues to see who knows the creative world best.
